These Terms govern your use of Legacy, a private journaling and social application operated by Legacy AI LLC, a Pennsylvania limited liability company ("Legacy," "we," "us"). By creating an account, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't create an account.
We've tried to write these in plain language. Where a section is unavoidably legal in tone, that's because it has to be — not because we're hiding anything in it.
You must be 18 or older. Legacy includes pseudonymous community spaces and AI features that are not designed for minors. We ask you to confirm your age when you create an account, we do not knowingly permit accounts for anyone under 18, and we will close any account we learn belongs to a minor.
You must provide accurate information when you create an account, and you are responsible for everything that happens under it.
During the current release, Legacy is offered only to users in the United States.
Legacy encrypts your private content with a key generated on your device. When you set up your account, you receive a 12-word recovery phrase.
Keep your phrase somewhere safe and offline. Do not share it with anyone, including anyone claiming to be from Legacy. We will never ask you for it.
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and device. Tell us promptly at shawn@legacy-ai.app if you believe your account has been compromised.
You own everything you create in Legacy — journal entries, posts, messages, recordings, and anything else. We claim no ownership of it.
You grant us only the narrow, non-exclusive license we need to actually operate the service for you: to store your content, transmit it to the people you choose to share it with, display it back to you, and — only where you have explicitly asked for an AI feature — transmit the relevant content to our AI processing providers. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except where our Privacy Policy describes specific retained material.
We do not use your content to train AI models, and we do not license, sell, or transfer it to anyone for their own purposes.
You may not use Legacy to post, send, share, or store content that:
You also may not attempt to de-anonymize another user's pseudonymous identity, scrape or bulk-collect other users' content or profiles, circumvent our security or access controls, reverse-engineer the service except where that right cannot lawfully be restricted, or use automated systems to access Legacy in ways we haven't authorized.
These standards apply to content you share — with other people, with community spaces, or with our AI features. Your private journal is yours, and we do not review it. If you never share an entry, no one sees it but you.
Content posted to shared and community spaces is automatically screened for prohibited material before it publishes. Screening is not perfect and is not a substitute for reporting.
Every piece of shared content in Legacy can be reported from within the app, and every user can be blocked. If you encounter something that violates these standards, report it.
We review reports of objectionable content and act on them within 24 hours, which may include removing the content, suspending or terminating the responsible account, and, where the law requires it, notifying authorities.

We may remove content or suspend accounts where we reasonably believe these standards have been violated. We will use judgment rather than automation alone for consequential decisions, but we do not guarantee that any particular content will be reviewed or removed on any particular timeline beyond the commitment above.
Legacy includes AI features — Legacy AI, AI Allies modeled on published works of historical and archetypal figures, and personalization built from content you choose to share with them.
If you are in crisis or considering harming yourself, please contact emergency services or a crisis line — in the United States, you can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Legacy is not an emergency service and cannot get help to you.
AI features operate only on content you affirmatively choose to share with them. Sharing a journal entry with Legacy AI is permanent and cannot be undone — the app tells you this before you do it. Content shared with AI features is processed by third-party AI providers as described in our Privacy Policy.

These Terms apply in full during the beta, except that Legacy is provided free of charge and Section 8 does not currently apply.
Legacy is free during the beta. When paid subscriptions launch, prices, tiers, and billing terms will be disclosed in the app before you are charged, and purchases will be processed by the App Store or Google Play under their terms. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled, and you cancel through the store you purchased from, not through us. Refunds are handled by the store under its own policies.
You can delete your account at any time from within the app. Deletion begins a 30-day grace period during which signing back in restores your account; after that, deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed. Our Privacy Policy describes exactly what is deleted, what is anonymized, and what is retained.
We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially violate these Terms, if we are required to by law, or if continuing to provide the service to you would expose us or other users to harm. Where circumstances allow, we will tell you why.
Sections 3, 10, 11, 12, and 13 survive the end of your account.
Legacy — the software, the name, the design, and everything in it other than user content — belongs to Legacy AI LLC. These Terms grant you a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app as intended, and nothing more.

LEGACY IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR ERROR-FREE, THAT DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED, OR THAT CONTENT WILL NOT BE LOST. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CONDUCT OF OTHER USERS OR FOR CONTENT THEY CREATE.
WE DO NOT WARRANT THE ACCURACY OF AI-GENERATED OUTPUT.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, LEGACY AI LLC AND ITS MEMBERS, OFFICERS, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, REVENUE, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF LEGACY, WHETHER BASED IN CONTRACT, TORT, STRICT LIABILITY, OR ANY OTHER THEORY, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS.
SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN LIMITATIONS, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. IN THAT CASE OUR LIABILITY IS LIMITED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Legacy AI LLC from any claim, demand, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of content you create or share, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of the rights of any third party.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the service will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Erie County, Pennsylvania, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
Before filing anything, please write to us at shawn@legacy-ai.app. Most problems are faster to solve directly, and we would rather solve them.
If you obtained Legacy through the Apple App Store or Google Play, you acknowledge that these Terms are between you and Legacy AI LLC only, not with Apple or Google. Apple and Google have no obligation to provide support or maintenance for Legacy. Apple and Google are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.
We may update these Terms. When changes are material, we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect, and continued use afterwards means you accept them. If you don't accept them, delete your account.
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, on notice to you. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between us regarding Legacy.
